Demo and template for groups.
Project groups are work spaces where a group of people can work collaboratively on one or several projects. A space in the CAN where resources, people, and tools are 'pulled' by affinity towards a specific end or goal. It could organized around an affinity of people (organization, community, informal group) wanting to work together, or a shared interest/theme (a cause, or a specific commons), or a type of activity or action toward a certain end (learning, advocacy, research, planning etc).
We would like the CAN to be as 'structureless' as possible. Just providing the Knowledge base, the spaces, the network and the tools for people to make thinks visible to each other, and to learn and collaborate with each other.
Here we can describe our groups with advanced editor and layout, and provide several additional pages visible in the horizontal menu above. See the tabs up there to access various custom pages.
This custom page bundle can be turned into a group's landing page (i.e. home page) via the extras tab in the admin menu. Only group administrators can access this menu. Please request membership to the testing groups extras group and your 'promotion' to group admin so that you can look at configurations and test it.
Creating and displaying the extras pages
Look how this is configured an play in the testing groups extras group.
In the general settings, extras fields are not quite useful for us now. They come default as displayed. Here, we have checked hide it so that they don't appear.
The important thing here is to rename the current home page as activity, rename the extras pages as the home page, and once you have saved the general settings a first time, to move (drag and drop) the new home page to the top of the list so that all the links to the group land there.
Then all you need to do is add pages and order them by drag and drop on the all pages tab.
Uses of pages
You can display lots on these pages (see examples via the tabs above this text):
- feature some specific things,
- information on themes, causes, channels, that could be linked back to NORA
- links to resources
- tips and guidelines,
- activity of related groups (those that share the same group tags. for this you will need to tag your group so it gets aggregated with others working on similar or adjacent topics so that we can gain visibility on the work in the network).
- Trello project board. The interesting thing with the Trello board is that it can let members (that must be logged in to Trello too) feature projects and organize things both in an individual and aggregated manner, without being administrators and accessing the groups pages, which makes it simpler as admin pages are often difficult to go around and sometimes tricky…
There's a lot we can do now in terms of visibility and practical organization and additional features. We will be improving it.
Sample Test Group Hello!
